Duke of Edinburgh’s Award – Gold Expedition

T he Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award involves helping the community/environment; developing new skills; planning, training for and completing an expedition and, for Gold only, working with a team on a residential activity. Last summer MTS students undertook their Gold Qualifying Expedition in Snowdonia.

“An opportunity to capture a moment to ourselves alongside a stunning reservoir

landscape in the isolated heart of Snowdonia lifted our spirits and helped us push on.” Elliot Gregg (U6th)

“Notable events include finding an armchair in the middle of a forest, getting lost next to a waterfall, and laughing at ourselves as we made an arduous and mechanically assisted descent from the hills surrounding Mount Snowdon.” Alex Quarry (U6th)

“The quarries we saw, whilst breathtaking, demonstrate how humans are capable of great destruction in the name of progress. Whilst all the mining that took place at these locations has permanently scarred the landscape, we did notice some plant life poking through the gaps between pieces of quarried slate.” Ben Lakin (U6th)
