Musicians selected to join prestigious ensembles Music Scholar Hugh S., a horn player, was recently invited to join the prestigious and highly selective London Schools Symphony Orchestra. His first concert was on 10 January at the Barbican Hall. Hugh has also, alongside the clarinetist Ben C., been selected for the National Youth Concert Band. After two highly competitive rounds of auditions, Jack B. was selected for the National Youth Guitar Ensemble, which meets monthly throughout the year in three regional groups before coming together each Easter. He is part of the Foundation ensemble, in which he will stay for a year or so until he progresses to the more senior Camerata.

Taylors’ VEX Robotics Teams celebrate continued success Merchant Taylors’ VEX Robotics Teams had another outstanding year, achieving remarkable success in the UK National Championship. Six of our teams collectively earned four awards, with the Fifth Form team, MTS_ R3START, securing the coveted title of tournament champions. At the prestigious 2024 VEX Robotics World Championship in Dallas, Texas, MTS Hydra delivered an impressive performance, finishing 56th out of 500 teams worldwide. They advanced to the 16th round of the Maths division, demonstrating exceptional skills and strategic insight that allowed them to progress further than any previous MTS team.

Stunning West Side Story performance delivers musical magic

A talented cast from Merchant Taylors’ and St Helen’s brought West Side Story , the classic musical, to life in the Great Hall, transporting the audience to the vibrant streets of the Upper West Side of New York in the 1950s.
