The 2022 Procession

Alderman Nicholas Lyons’ (Merchant Taylor) installation as the 694th Mayor of London.

This year’s show took place on November 12th. The Merchant Taylors’ float included the Merchant Taylors’ Dixieland Band and other musicians from Merchant Taylors’ Prep, St John’s and St Saviour’s and St. Olave’s, Southwark. There was the MTS Bhangra Group who danced throughout the entire procession after exhaustive rehearsals. There were also more exotic aspects of the display, with two camels processing (reflecting the Merchant Taylors’ Coat of Arms) and other processors dressed as cotton reels. The procession was well supported by the Merchant Taylors’ community with hundreds of OMTs, parents and pupils including the Phab team, the Charity Drive team, Community Action, Outreach and the JCR. The Head Monitor, Dominic Murphy O’Connor, represented the school at the Mansion House where he was a guest of the Lord Mayor.

In the morning, the Lord Mayor’s Procession went from Mansion House to the Royal Courts via St Paul’s Cathedral. Then, in the early afternoon, it came back via the Embankment and Victoria Street. It was a wonderful day in which the school played its part. At the end of the day the Bhangra Group met and played for the Lord Mayor at Merchant Taylors’ Hall – a wonderful end to a memorable day.
