Warhammer Club Warhammer Club has a devoted following, particularly among the younger pupils. Their bid was for more models and paints to enable this burgeoning club to continue to grow. Mayan Patel (Third Form) writes: ‘Warhammer Club has provided an amazing opportunity to get involved in something creative and fun. It’s a great way to relax, meet new people and share ideas while building and painting Warhammer models. I’ve really enjoyed working on some of the School’s models and, thanks to Mr Waterhouse and other students, I was inspired to start my own collection. In my first eight weeks at MTS, Warhammer Club has been one of the highlights. It has taught me that Monday evenings can be spent doing something I love — a hobby that I’ll continue to enjoy’.
MTS Football Academy Whisper it, but (association) football is hugely popular among Merchant Taylors’ pupils. As it is not a Games option for the Lower School, the MTS Football Academy was founded to provide a club for 40–60 boys to play on a Friday after school during the first two terms of the year. The grant supported the purchase of the equipment required to establish what has become an exciting opportunity for the boys. Eddie Hall (Upper Thirds) comments: ‘I have thoroughly enjoyed these sessions, especially meeting MTP boys whom I wouldn’t otherwise have met until next year. This has been amazing for my football skills, and my club has commented on how well I’m improving too! I can’t wait to start the inter-academy league matches as they will be yet another opportunity to test myself, but on a larger scale. I am very grateful to the sixth formers who sacrifice their time to help us and give us tips too’.
Lower School Table Tennis One of the most popular activities for the Lower School in any break between lessons, as well as before and after school, is outdoor table tennis. The four tables purchased from a successful bid in 2022 were in practically constant use. Committee members witnessed pupils wiping snow off the tables in
order to play in the lead-up to this year’s meeting, and the fact that the Third Form was about to more than double in size in September made the purchase of a further four tables an easy decision. We could double the number again and a rota would still be required!

Subbuteo Club The Subbuteo Club has been growing in popularity over the last few years under the supervision of Mark Fothergill, but it was limited to 15 boys a week who played on pitches stretched out on desks or the classroom floor. Their successful bid enabled the club to buy more sets
and, with the help of the DET Department, to mount them on MDF boards. The club has since grown in popularity, to the point that they are now about to spend more from their grant to increase capacity further. Attendance is currently about 30 boys a week.
