Concordia Magazine 2025

Jacob Keisner (2012–2017) Jacob Keisner is currently a Schwarzman Scholar at Tsinghua University in Beijing. Founded by Blackstone CEO Stephen Schwarzman in 2013 and modelled on the Rhodes Scholarship programme, the Schwarzman Scholars initiative is a fully funded, one-year master’s degree programme in global affairs. Each year the programme selects about 150 scholars from around the world, based on their leadership potential, academic excellence and a commitment to fostering mutual cultural understanding. Jacob would love to hear from any OMTs in China, or anyone interested in applying to the programme, and he is happy to discuss the application process. Since arriving in Beijing in August, he has experienced an engaging first few months and looks forward to continuing his exploration of the country and the broader region.

Marcus-Alexander Neil (2001–2008) and Ryan de Rocha (1999–2004) During Black History Month, Marcus-Alexander Neil and Ryan de Rocha returned to School to talk about their careers and their experiences as black men. Using the STARR method, they gave examples of how they had experienced racism and bias and how they responded to them. It was an extremely effective way of illustrating the importance of self-belief and making the right choices so that you can be true to yourself. The talk made a huge impact on everyone present, and we are very grateful to Marcus-Alexander and Ryan for coming back to speak.

OMTs shine in Oxford Blues victory over Eastern Suburbs

Harry Bridgewater (2017–2022), current Oxford Blues Club President, started the recent clash with the Eastern Suburbs at fullback, delivering a composed and commanding performance. His leadership, both on and off the pitch, continues to impress, and he is currently overseeing the planning of the Blues’ first tour to Australia in 30 years — a landmark event for the club. SCR teacher Scott de Weymarn was part of the team officiating the match. He caught up with Harry and OMTs Antony Poole (2018–2025) and James Beeby (2019–2025) after the game.

Tony Chen (2006–2013) GP Registrar Tony Chen recently attended Friday Night Lights at Merchant Taylors’ School as a Matchday Doctor. ‘It was a real pleasure to return to Merchant Taylors’ School. Having graduated in

the Class of 2013, it was both nostalgic and rewarding to contribute in a professional capacity to the School community that shaped so much of my early life. The experience brought back many fond memories formed at MTS.’
