Harvey Bernard Zelin

(1948–1953)

he entered the Classical VI, studying History rather than languages. He was in the MTS RAF Cadets and flew aeroplanes, even claiming to have done ‘barrel rolls’! Leaving School in 1953, he took articles with a Holborn solicitor, obtained an LLB degree and qualified as a solicitor in 1959. He set up a legal practice in London with his brother David (1945–1950); it became successful and is still known as Zelin & Zelin, even though it is now run by other people. Bernard met his wife, Linda, on a night out in Jermyn Street in London. They were married in 1963 and had nearly 62 happy years together. They moved to Northwood in 1972, the family home to this day. Bernard was a keen tennis and bridge player, skier and Watford Football Club season ticket holder. His relaxed times were great fun, and his dry sense of humour entertained his friends for hours. He enjoyed many walking and far-flung trips, including to South Africa, Argentina and the Far East, and played tennis at his club in Northwood into his late 80s. He threw two big family parties in his later years: one for his and Linda’s 60th wedding anniversary and the other for his 90th birthday. Bernard was a perfect parent, grandparent, employer and friend; he is survived by his wife Linda, sons Andrew and Peter, grand-daughter Sophie and grandson Ben. Martin Brand (1948–1953), Andrew Zelin (1979–1983)

Bernard Zelin died on 20 October 2025, aged 90, after 89 years in great health and fully active. Having been evacuated to a farm in Somerset during the World War II, Bernard joined Merchant Taylors’ School from Alpha Prep School in 1948, in Upper 4B. Eventually
