Clubs and Societies Fund Update

The school’s Clubs and Societies are at the centre of the rich and varied extra-curricular experience that our pupils enjoy, which is an integral element of the education we provide at Merchant Taylors’. Gifts from the Head Master’s Discretionary Fund provide a pool DJ Club There has been growing interest among the boys to explore less conventional approaches to music and with this in mind the DJ Club was established in June 2023 with an award from the Committee to purchase professional DJ equipment. In the first two meetings around 30 boys expressed interest and in the Autumn Term the boys joined beginner or advanced sessions depending on their experience and skill. The aim of the club is to work towards having some performance-ready DJs during the Autumn Term so that they might contribute to the Phab Revue or other school events in the new year. There was a real variety of applications that received support from the Fund this year. All of them will certainly enrich the experience of the boys. Here are some of the highlights.


Drama Technical Club The Drama Technical Club received support for wireless communication equipment to assist the production team with managing drama and musical productions. In the Summer Term the new system was set up and the boys began training on the new equipment and becoming familiar with it in preparation for its first use in the production of the school play, Enron , in November. There are currently eight boys in the Drama Technical Club across many year groups, with more joining in the Winter Term. The production team really valued the new wireless communication equipment as they mounted Enron , which is a technically challenging production. Lighting, stage management, projection and sound, everyone benefited from the enhancements this new equipment provided and the audience was certainly impressed with the performance.
