Edmund Richards (2010-2015) On Tuesday 6th June the Physics department welcomed back OMT and McClaren Aero Performance Engineer, Edmund Richards, to speak about his career in Formula 1 and the engineering involved. Edmund discussed his career path, following on from reading General Engineering at Oxford, including his placement year at Red Bull. He explained how the different teams at McClaren work together: from those using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), to the designers and aerodynamicists, such as himself, and many more teams beyond this. He gave a flavour of what the job is like delving into the nitty gritty of the engineering, including the play off between downforce and drag, before answering the some of the boys’ questions.

Anthony Payne (1952-1959) On Saturday 12th August

Anthony Payne acted as Town Crier to announce the Lammas Fair in Whitehaven, Cumbria. It takes place each year on 12th August and has by law to be announced to the public by the Town Crier. This year both the Town Crier and the Deputy Town Crier were unavailable, so an appeal was put out via Facebook. Anthony contacted the organisers and had the honour of stepping into the role, reading the proclamation in stentorian tones honed by 34 years of schoolmastering.

Emilio Rimini and Kieran Chauhan (both 2015-2020) combine university studies with business growth

The Green Company was established as part of the Young Enterprise scheme at school with the help of the careers department, advisor Stacey Lewis, and our fantastic team of ten then Lower Sixth Formers. Emilio writes: “We made good progress through the competition and were rewarded with multiple awards. In the years since, Kieran Chauhan and I have continued to build on those solid foundations, taking The Green Company to new heights. Now the leading British supplier of our revolutionary laundry detergent in sheet form, we have sold to over 100,000 individuals worldwide, won contracts and supply the British Army, English National Opera, Royal Shakespeare Company, and many more prestigious organisations.” With firm plans for product and market expansion I hope that the future is bright for the company, as we look to innovate greener,
