Events Roundup

O ur ambition is to create engaging events that allow us to support reunions, different interest groups and, sometimes, different time zones. In the past twelve months OMTs and parents have attended a wide variety of events and, given the preceding pandemic period, it is perhaps no surprise that this year has seen more guests attending a wider range of events than before. We have continued our online events with a talk about the work of the RNLI by Adam Forrest (1988-1993), a discussion about his new book by Matthew Green (1996-2001) and an exhilarating talk from Jerry Gore (1974-1979), who overcame lightning strikes, broken bones and type 1 diabetes while pursuing his passion for mountaineering and supporting young people with type 1 diabetes in South East Asia through his charity: Action4Diabetes https:// action4diabetes.org. All our past online talks are available to view on the school website https:// development.mtsn.org.uk/events/mts-together events. Our events this year seem to have either been

bathed in glorious sunshine or soaked in biblical rain. We hosted the OMT AfternoonTea for over 100 OMTs who left school in the mid 1970s and before, together with their guests. A particularly wet and squally afternoon, the mood wasn’t dampened as guests enjoyed visiting familiar parts of the school as well as the newest classrooms in Biology and Geography. This event will always be our opportunity to celebrate the return of our earliest vintage OMTs, and the whole school look forward to entertaining our guests. Look out for the details of our 2023 event over the following pages. The summer was also an opportunity for us to host the Classes of 2002 and 1992 to their respective 20 and 30 year reunions. Held on Saturdays in May and July, the JCR guided tours of the school followed by drinks in the Inner Quad and then dinner of their choosing in the OMT Clubhouse. Former (and current) members of the SCR who attended one or more of the reunions were former Head Master, Jon Gabitass and his wife, Fiona, JonnyTaylor, Caron Evans-Evans,
