Creating Futures 17 March 2026, 5.30pm, Merchant Taylors’ School Why entrepreneurship matters for young people The world is changing at an unprecedented pace. Rapid technological advancements, changing societal expectations and significant geopolitical and economic shifts — not to mention the intense need to mitigate climate change — are among the key factors reshaping industries and redefining what work looks like. Our traditional and previously predictable career paths are now fluid and uncertain. In this landscape, entrepreneurial thinking is not simply an option: it is arguably a survival skill. In a world where the jobs for which our young people will be competing don’t yet exist, the ability to create their own opportunities is invaluable. approaching challenges with creativity, self-reliance and the confidence to embrace risk. For young people, this mindset offers empowerment: the chance to take control of their future rather than waiting for opportunities to appear. It is about turning ideas into impact, whether that means solving a local problem or innovating on a global scale. Employers in every sector increasingly value innovation, adaptability and leadership — the very qualities entrepreneurship nurtures. With change everywhere we look, organisations also need intrapreneurs: employees with the key skills to envision, champion and lead innovation with real impact. The MTS Community is full of real and aspiring entrepreneurs. In spring 2026 we should like to bring together entrepreneurs from among our parents and OMTs to share their wisdom with pupils. Plans for our first Entrepreneurship Convention on the evening of Tuesday 17 March are still in development, but we already have some exciting new elements to be revealed nearer the event. If you have a personal entrepreneurial journey or experience that you would be willing to share, either as a formal presentation or through informal conversations at the event, or if you are interested in supporting pupil entrepreneurship activities in School, please drop us a line via careers@mtsn.org.uk.
