French Exchange

French Exchange Programme

T his academic year saw the return of the Fourth Form French exchange with one of the best schools in France, l’École alsacienne, originally a Protestant school for boys created in 1874 by a group of Alsatians at the end of the Franco Prussian war. These days it is a private yet state-run co-educational establishment based in the sixth arrondissement of Paris. Eighteen boys hosted their French exchange partner for a week in April, which was reciprocated by the French families during the May half term. Needless to say, our French counterparts were in awe of our beautiful 250 acres and tremendous facilities. Our pupils were equally astounded to see how cleverly this beautiful Parisian school fits into what looks like small grounds at first glance.

I wish to thank all the families involved for giving all pupils a perfect cultural experience on both sides of the Channel. Not only did pupils visit many of the landmarks which they had learnt about from their textbooks, but hopefully the exchange will encourage a willingness to travel and potentially expand their career prospects outside the UK. Our students created friendships which I hope will be long-lasting. All came back enthusiastic about the exchange, their highlight being the experience of a school routine different to their own; they can hardly wait to renew it. Ms R. G. Haye
