TAYLORIAN ROWING

Rowing R owing has continued to go from strength to strength this year. 7hanNs to an award from the &lubs and 6ocieties fund Ó supported by Nind donations from 207s parents and friends to the +ead 0asterÖs 'iscretionary )und Ó we purchased the much anticipated third single scull mentioned in last yearÖs Taylorian article. 7hanNs to the same fund we also bought a second double which is exciting because it has sweep riggers too so in addition to sculling blades we got one set of sweep blades for those who are sixteen or older to familiari]e themselYes with in preparation for uniYersity. Rowing is very popular and we are still oversubscribed, even in the Summer Term when cricket dominates the school’s sporting activities. We have aficionados whom we have taught from scratch, experienced rowers from prestigious clubs and complete novices.

the programme, Sydney Grammar have expressed an interest in visiting on future rowing tours. Zach Kirkham (Divs): The rowing team has recently been buzzing with excitement due to the arrival of a new double scull. Despite having it for only a few weeks, it has already significantly improved our rowing sessions, enabling new rowers to try smaller boats for the first time. Rowing is a sport that requires a mix of physical fitness, coordination, and mental toughness. Ms Scott is committed to not only enhancing our rowing skills but also supporting our overall development. She places a strong emphasis on discipline, teamwork, and personal growth. Known for her punctuality standards, she ensures that all team members arrive on time for practices and events. She has fostered a strong sense of camaraderie within the team.

We are so lucky to have the lake within our grounds; between the Rowing Games option and Rowing Club, rowing can be enjoyed three times a week, and MTS pupils in all year groups can learn to scull and row with specialised coaching. It is great for fitness and friendship and lots of fun. Ms D. M. Scott Zach Scott (L6th): For the last three years I have been fortunate to be involved in rowing at MTS, both as a Games option and in the after-school club. The club is fantastic at giving younger pupils, who cannot yet take part in the Games option, a sense of what it means to be in a rowing squad whilst developing beginner skills and technique. Whether rowing as part of the club for Games, sessions are always exciting and give us the chance to develop teamwork and the best possible crew combinations. Such is the success of
