highlights for me included Tippett’s ‘Five Spirituals’ (from A Child of Our Time ) and Vaughan Williams’s Five Variants of ‘Dives and Lazarus’ – a rousing piece of music I thoroughly recommend you listen to. AH: I really enjoyed singing at an organ and vocal recital at Aldenham Church this year with Mrs Stubbs. I sang a variety of Baroque, Renaissance and early twentieth century music. I started with ‘Tornami a vagheggiar’ from Handel’s Opera Alcina , then sang Schubert’s ‘Du bist die Ruh’. I continued with songs from Mozart and Fauré and ended with Puccini’s ‘O mio babino caro’ and Bernstein’s ‘Maria’. KC: My favourite concert this year was the concert at Merchant Taylors’ Hall, where I led the chamber orchestra and played with the piano trio. The Hall is a great venue – its large stained-glass windows and tall ceilings make it visually stunning. I really enjoyed the pieces we played, including the theme and first two of Vaughan Williams’s Five Variants of ‘Dives and Lazarus’ with the chamber orchestra, and Telemann’s Trio Sonata in D Minor with the piano trio.
KC: I play the violin and piano, and sing in the choir and chamber choir. I am the concert master in the chamber orchestra, with whom I recently played in the Spring Spectacular concert. I am also a first violin in the symphony orchestra, which will play in the Summer Serenade. I have performed with a piano trio in events such as the Merchant Taylors’ Hall Concert. BC: I am a music scholar. I play clarinet in the symphony orchestra and concert band. I sing in the chamber choir and choir; I play the organ and have performed a small number of recitals and in assembly. HS: I’m a music scholar, horn player and singer. Which concert did you enjoy the most this year and why? TE: The concert at Merchant Taylors’ Hall, during which the spotlight is placed on the school’s chamber music groups, is always an amazing occasion to perform in and listen to, and this year was no exception. To be able to perform at such a grand and historic venue is a privilege. This year’s
