VEX Robotics
I n December, two of our VEX V5 robotics teams attended a regional competition at Queen Elizabeth’s 6chool %arnet. %oth of our teams 076B5 67$57 ; and 076B3arity = faced tough competition throughout the day two teams traYelled from as far afield as )oshan &hina. However, both of our teams got off to a flying start and ranked 1st and 2nd position in the qualification rankings. While MTS_Parity was knocked out in the quarterfinals, MTS_R3START progressed all the way to the final, where four teams (two different alliances) battled it out to win the tournament. After a thrilling match, MTS_R3START and their alliance partner – who had travelled from Coventry for the tournament – ran out 133-112 victors.
Next was the announcement of the competition’s most coveted prize – the Excellence Award, which is presented to a team that exemplifies overall excellence in
building a high-quality robotics program. Both MTS teams had a good chance of winning, but it was MTS_Parity who scooped the prize.
I n 0arch six 076 9(; teams traYelled to Telford for the UK National Championship, accompanied by sixty-four qualifying teams from schools across the country. :e came away with a total of four awards and our )ifth )orm team 076B 5 67$57 emerged as tournament champions. Characterised by close victories and valiant defeats, the competition was certainly an emotional rollercoaster and culminated in a nerve-shredding grand finale – a best-of-three between MTS_ R3START and their opponents. Unfazed by losing the first round, MTS_R3START rallied to secure a win in the second before being crowned champions when, after much deliberation, the referees disqualified their opponents for an error committed during the tiebreaker, granting them their well earned victory.
